Program Description

The Master of Science in Information Technology provides relevant and timely graduate education to professionals seeking skills in the effective management, development and implementation of information technology in organizations. Building upon the student’s work experience and education, the program offers intensive online learning instruction assignments to deliver a high-quality graduate learning experience. The result is a program which develops the effective organizational, leadership and job-specific skills required in the fast-paced information technology field.

The MSIT program is accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Entrance Criteria

One or more of the following criteria will be considered for admission to the Master of Science in Information Technology program*:

1. Past academic performance.
2. Professional work experience.
3. Minimum qualifications for admission to Missouri State as a graduate student.

*Admission to the MSIT program is competitive, and satisfying the above entrance criteria does not guarantee admission. Provisional admission may be available for students do not meet the minimum criteria at the time of application. Provisional students may be required to successfully complete specific prerequisite courses in order to remove their provisional status.

Accelerated Master’s Degree Option

Undergraduate majors in the College of Business may apply for admission to the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) program during the second semester of their junior year. If accepted, up to 12 hours of 600- and 700-level COB classes taken in the senior year may be counted toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Admission Requirement:

1. Completion of 80 or more hours at time of application.
2. An overall GPA of 3.00 or better.

Before enrolling in a course that will apply to both the undergraduate program and the master’s program an undergraduate student must:

1. Be accepted into the accelerated program.
2. Receive prior approval from the MSIT program director, department head of the undergraduate program, and the Dean of the Graduate College. This is done by using a Mixed Credit Form.

Acceptance into the program and all approvals must be completed prior to the end of the Change of Schedule period for the course(s). See the Graduate College for further information.

International Students Only

In addition to the requirements above, international applicants must also provide official TOEFL scores. Test must have been taken within the last two years of intended term of enrollment and sent to Missouri State University (code 6665) from ETS.

Degree requirements

The Master of Science in Information Technology is a 30 credit-hour program. Students typically complete the program in two years when taking two courses in each of the fall and spring semester and one course in the summer semester of each year. A maximum of two graduate-level courses (6 credit hours) taken at an approved post-secondary institution before acceptance into the program may be applied toward the degree if approved by the Program Director.
