HST 572 - Gender and Sexuality in Modern East Asia Credit Hours: 3 This course explores the formation, institutionalization, and ongoing negotiation of gendered discourses and practices in China, Japan, and Korea from the late imperial period until the present. Drawing on a range of sources, including literature, images, and films, students will analyze the ways in which changing conceptions of gender and sexuality have informed the legal system, medicine, political movements, and economic formations in East Asia, among others. May be taught concurrently with HST 672. Cannot receive credit for both HST 572 and HST 672.
