Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate


Program Description

The School of Nursing offers a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Graduate Certificate for nurses who have a minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing degree from a nationally accredited nursing graduate program. This graduate certificate is for nurses who wish to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to practice as a PMHNP. The PMHNP option prepares nurses at an advanced level to assess, diagnose, treat, educate, and manage acute and chronic patients’ mental health needs across the lifespan as a health care provider. The PMHNP Graduate Certificate curriculum is delivered in a hybrid format. The PMHNP Graduate Certificate program is a series of courses totaling a minimum of 24 credit hours and minimum of 500 clinical hours. Completion of the certificate program will prepare students to take the national PMHNP certification exam.

Application Process

  1. Submit an application to Nursing CAS with all required documentation, including transcripts, and references. The application fee does not guarantee acceptance into the desired program of your choosing.
  2. Submit evidence of graduation with a minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing degree from a nationally accredited nursing graduate nursing program.
  3. Submit proof of cumulative GPA of 3.25 (on a 4.00 scale).
  4. Submit proof of completing a graduate course in advanced pharmacology that includes prescriptive practices, advanced pathophysiology, and advanced physical/health assessment.
  5. Interview with a departmental selection committee.
