SOC 340 - Global Health and Social Justice Credit Hours: 3 This course considers social forces that affect people’s health, risk of illness, and access to adequate health services across the globe. Course will analyze social and political conditions that give rise to and reinforce inequities in health and health outcomes. With the understanding that health is, at its core, a social justice issue, this course also considers policies and programs that attempt to address health problems by reducing disparities. Students will gain familiarity with global perspectives and influences on human health that are relevant to careers in health care and other fields. Specific topics include major health threats and global health priorities, social and environmental contributions to health and illness, and organizational responses to health concerns.
