AGR 687 - Advanced Precision Agricultural Technology

Credit Hours: 3

This capstone course provides an advanced exploration of precision agriculture technologies and their integration into real-world farm management systems. Building upon foundational knowledge from Introduction to Precision Agriculture, Digital Land Management, and Drones in Agricultural Management, students will apply data-driven decision-making techniques to solve complex agricultural challenges. Through comprehensive projects, students will collect, analyze, and interpret multi-source agricultural data-including yield, soil, imagery, and application datasets-to design and implement management solutions. Emphasis is placed on creating variable rate prescriptions for planting and spraying, diagnosing issues revealed through yield and imagery analysis, and effectively utilizing agricultural software platforms for data integration, visualization, and long-term storage. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate the ability to synthesize technical, agronomic, and economic data into actionable management plans that enhance productivity, efficiency, and sustainability in modern agriculture. May be taught concurrently with AGR 587. Cannot receive credit for both AGR 587 and AGR 687.

Prerequisite: AGR 257; and AGR 457 or AGR 657 .
