BMS 231 - Human Genetics with Laboratory Credit Hours: 4 A survey of genetic principles in humans with emphasis on molecular genetics and human genetic abnormalities causing diseases and behavioral changes. Course content is recommended for majors in human health care related fields. The course focuses on medical genetics and examines the molecular and genetic basis of human disease. The laboratory emphasis is on techniques and skills that expand the understanding of genetic concepts such as amplification and visualization of DNA, protein quantification and detection, and different modes of gene transmission. Cannot receive credit for both BMS 230 and BMS 231.
Prerequisite: C grade or better in BMS 110 and BMS 111 or in BIO 121 ; and eligibility for MTH 134 or MTH 136 . Lecture contact hours: 3 Lab contact hours: 2
